Anthurium veitchii narrow
Leaf structure
Shape: The leaves are long, narrow and slightly wavy, with a characteristic arrow or lance shape.
Surface: The leaves have a glossy, deep green surface and are highly textured, with distinct veins that give the plant stability.
Size: They can grow up to 60 cm long and 20 cm wide, depending on the conditions and age of the plant.
Special feature
This species is characterised by its exceptionally long, narrow leaves that come together in an eye-catching, exotic look.
It is also known as ‘King Anthurium’ and is often valued for its decorative leaves in interior design.
It does not usually produce showy flowers, but attracts attention with its leaves.
Care instructions
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Water when the top layer of soil is dry.
Humidity: High humidity is important, ideally above 60%. Misting can help, or using a humidifier.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius, sensitive to frost.
Optimum conditions
Location: Semi-shady to shady, direct sunlight should be avoided as it can burn the leaves.
Substrate: Well-drained, airy substrate containing organic materials (e.g. peat, coconut fibre, orchid soil).
Fertilising
Frequency: Fertilise every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser for houseplants or a special Anthurium fertiliser rich in potassium.
Occurrence in the wild
Origin: Anthurium veitchii is native to the tropical rainforests of Ecuador and Colombia.
Habitat: It typically grows in shady, humid environments, often near trees, where it is dependent on other plants (epiphyte).
