Plant care:
Fertilisation:
- Water: Leucocasia gigantea ‘Laosy Giant’ is a water-loving plant and prefers evenly moist soil. However, it must not be left in standing water as this can lead to root rot. During the growing season (spring and summer), it should be watered regularly and abundantly so that the substrate never dries out completely. Watering can be reduced in winter, but the soil should still be kept slightly moist.
- Light: This plant thrives best in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the sensitive leaves. It can also grow in slightly shadier areas, although growth may be slowed down.
- Temperature: It prefers warm conditions with temperatures between 10 and 35 °C. Draughts and cold temperatures below 10 °C should be avoided.
- Humidity: Leucocasia gigantea ‘Laosy Giant’ loves high humidity (60-80%), so it is advisable to cultivate it in humid environments such as bathrooms or with the help of a humidifier. Regular spraying of the leaves can also increase the humidity and contribute to the health of the plant.
- Soil: This plant prefers a loose, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. A mixture of standard potting soil, perlite and a little compost provides ideal conditions. The soil should have a certain water storage capacity, but should be able to dry out well to avoid waterlogging.
