Piper crocatum

• Light: Piper crocatum prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided as this can lead to leaf burns. A semi-shaded location is ideal.
• Watering: This plant likes even moisture, but without standing in water. Allow the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging at all costs to prevent root rot.
• Humidity: Piper crocatum appreciates a high humidity of at least 60-80%. A location in a bathroom or regular spraying of the leaves promotes the plant's well-being.
• Temperature: Temperatures between 18 and 25 °C are ideal. Avoid draughts and temperatures below 15 °C.
• Soil: Use a loose, well-drained soil mixture. A mixture of conventional potting soil, some perlite and peat is ideal to ensure good drainage and aeration.

During the growing season (spring and summer), the plant should be fed every 4 weeks with a liquid houseplant fertiliser or a special green plant fertiliser. In autumn and winter, when growth slows down, fertilising can be reduced to every 6-8 weeks.

Piper crocatum originates from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly the regions of Indonesia. In its natural environment, it grows as an epiphyte or holding plant along trees and benefits from the high humidity and subdued light of the dense leaf canopy.
